Ceylon Cinnamon Swirl Blondies 6

Have you ever heard of Ceylon Cinnamon?  Yeah I hadn’t either until Flavor of the Earth approached me, and wanted me to share their product with one of my lucky readers.  As always I wanted to know why this Ceylon Cinnamon was better than the average one sitting on my local grocery store shelf.   So what’s the difference between my local grocery store cinnamon and this fancy Ceylon Cinnamon you ask?

The grocery stores typically offer a Cassia variety of cinnamon which can be bitter or strong but this Ceylon cinnamon has a light, sweet taste with a delicate hint of citrus.  All Cinnamon is not the same. The typical Cinnamon that you know and that is available in the grocery store is cassia cinnamon. It is not actually real Cinnamon at all. Cassia cinnamon has a great deal of a compound called Coumarin, which the FDA currently warns “Coumarin is a substance with potential toxic side effects”. As you know I’m always skeptical about trying new products and recommending them to my readers, so now that I knew why this cinnamon was better I needed to know why Flavor of the Earth’s Ceylon Cinnamon was better than anyone else.

Ceylon Cinnamon

Flavor Of The Earth Ceylon Cinnamon Powder is pure premium grade, freshly ground from 100% real Cinnamon Bark.  It’s freshly ground in very small batches to ensure the very best in purity and taste.  This means the cinnamon has an incredible flavor  Plus it’s a great source of manganese, fiber, calcium and iron in your diet.  Most recently cinnamon has been linked to help control blood sugar too! You can read more about the benefits and difference of the Ceylon Cinnamon from the Cassia variety here.

This Ceylon Cinnamon has a light, mild sweet taste with a delicate hint of Citrus.  It is not strong or bitter like the cassia variety.  But, the best thing of all is the absolutely wonderful taste and smell.  Flavor Of The Earth is giving one of my lucky readers a 1LB container of this wonderful Ceylon Cinnamon.

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup Coconut Oil or Butter (1 Stick), melted

1 Cup Brown Sugar, packed

1 Egg

1/4 Cup Water

1 Cup Gluten Free Flour Mix (or regular flour if you aren’t GF)

1 Teaspoon Gluten Free Vanilla

For the Swirl

1/2 Cup Gluten Free Flour Mix (or regular flour if you aren’t GF)

1 Egg

2 Tablespoons Ceylon Cinnamon

1/2 Cup Brown Sugar

1/4 Cup Coconut Oil or Butter, melted

Pre-heat the oven to 350* and spray a 8×8 pan with nonstick spray.

In a medium glass bowl melt the coconut oil or butter in the microwave. Add the packed brown sugar, egg, and vanilla; stir until the mixture is combined.
Add the flour to the wet mixture and stir just until combined (be careful not to over stir or the blondes will be hard).  Pour the batter into the greased pan and spread evenly in the pan.

To make the cinnamon swirl melt the coconut oil or butter; then add the brown sugar, ceylon cinnamon, egg and Gluten Free Flour blend.  Whisk until smooth; then drop by the teaspoonful over the blondie base in the pan.

Once you have all of the cinnamon swirl mix used; take a knife and make a swirl like pattern incorporating the blondie with the cinnamon swirl.  You can use the knife to swirl the blondies as much or as little as you like.
